Summer school for graduate students
Summer School for the Study of Nuclear Materials at Oarai
Date: 14:40, Mon, August 1 to 10:00, Sat, August 6, 2011
The International Research Center for Nuclear Materials Science of the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University, hosts the Summer School for the Study of Nuclear Materials at Oarai for graduate students of universities nationwide.
The summer school includes lectures, field trips and training in groups of two or three people that focuses on “the creation of microscopic test pieces for irradiation in nuclear reactors, the evaluation of the irradiation embrittlement of radioactive samples (i.e., RI samples) in tests after irradiation and the observation and analysis of the micro factors.” In addition to basic experimental technologies such as electron microscopy (both transmission and scanning) and radiation measurement, students will receive detailed guidance for cutting-edge techniques of atom probes, focused ion beams (FIBs) and positron annihilation.
